New Research Unveils Arctic Siberia's 10°C Warmer Summers During the Last Interglacial   Understanding the Last Interglacial and its Significance for Climate Research Interglacials refer to the warmer phases that occur between  periods of glaciation, during which Earth's ice cover recedes. The current interglacial, the Holocene, has lasted for a p proximately 11,000 years, following the Last Interglacial, which s panned from 115,000 to 130,000 years ago. During this  period, Earth ex perienced nearly ice-free summers, accom panied by substantial vegetation ex pansion in  polar regions , fostering ecosystem transformations and enhancing conditions for life. Researchers view the Last Interglacial as a  potential analog for understanding future global warming scenarios. Research in Arctic Siberia: Investigating Terrestrial Res ponses to Warming Ongoing research , currently under review in the Climate of the Past journal, investigates Arctic geologica...
